Ryan Bailey and Nick Symmonds both set personal bests in their track and field specialties at an international meet Sunday in Rieti, Italy. Bailey, a former McKay High School athlete, ran a personal record 9.88 in the 100 meters to finish second behind Nesta Carter of Jamaica. Carter ran 9.78 to tie Tyson Gay of the USA for the top mark in the world this year.

Former Willamette University runner Nick Symmonds captured his first victory of the 2010 European circuit, taking the 800 meters Wednesday in an IAAF World Challenge meet in Zagreb, Croatia. Symmonds ran 1:45.37, 0.28 seconds ahead of runner-up Mansoor Belal Ali of Borneo. Job Kinyor of Kenya was third in 1:45.86.
